First Impressions Are Great! Phone App has some problems though
Ordered the phone on Dec 19th, and just received it today (12/22/16). To start off with, I have a Samsung Edge s7 that is in Texas for repairs so I need something to have for about 2 weeks. I needed a phone that would handle my Etsy accounts since that is what I do for a living. I have three shops on there and with the busy Xmas season still going on, I needed a phone that can update me FAST and reliably with emails, notifications, texts and everything else in-between. My previous little Alcatel GoPhone for $40 was NOT cutting it (it has a 1790 Mah battery so you do the math :) so I thought I would opt for something a little better. Ive only had the phone for a short while and here is what I can say regarding pros and cons during my first impressions: Pros: -Screen is very big and pretty. Even though the pixel density is not amazing, I honestly cant tell too much! -I thought the screen would be sticky and squishy and I was surprised to say that it is NOT like that at all. For a 6" inch display, its pretty nice and very responsive. - You dont need to touch the screen hard for it to work. Its very sensitive - Notification light is blue and super bright. I really like it. - Feel of the phone is very nice. Its actually pretty weighty for a massive phone and does feel premium. I have no complaints on the build quality at all besides the back casing (see CONS). Feels more like a $250 phone to me! - Set up was easy. I just popped in my AT&T sim and it was totally fine. No fuss. - I opened up multiple apps at once to see if it would lag out on me or feel chuggy. So far I have not noticed anything laggy. Seems pretty responsive and smooth. - You DO get an App drawer :) - You get a screen protector - You get headphones with a mic :) - Notification/call sounds are pretty loud -Vibration is good -Very fast charging! Cons: - This is the weirdest part and it is very possible this is something just bizarre on my end - but my phone app (the little phone icon) says 37 missed calls (I have never missed 37 calls in my life!!) and will not open. It just keeps saying "Phone has stopped working". It so weird. The ONLY way I can make a call is by going through my contacts list and calling people from there. It is honestly very strange. So if I cant make a call using the phone app, that is a downside. Its fine if I just use my contacts, but really I shouldn't have to. The phone app should just work, since thats the point of it :) - When you are putting in your sim card and removing the back casing, you will need to have some patience. I can tell easily that quickly removing the back housing will cause it to warp and bend - so please be patient taking it off. You do not want a warped backing because water and dust might get into your battery housing. This is a con just because the company could have put a little more effort into the housing being a bit more durable - but thats how it is. - The speaker is on the back - so if you're covering it, itll muffle the sound. - Call volume is a bit on the low end So far - it seems to be reliable and worth the money. I am getting all of my notifications for work and emails reliably which is what I need it for. I would suggest that if you are looking for a phone with a huge display, good build quality, and lots of cool features and do not need it for an extended period of time, this is the phone for you. I would not buy this phone if you are looking to permanently replace your high end Samsungs or Iphones or LG's. This is a really great secondary phone for your more flagship devices and should be treated as such. I only have put 4/5 stars because of the phone app not working. I will update and review again once I figure out why it keeps crashing and has "37 missed calls" on it. I will update this review as time goes on ;) UPDATE 12/27: I got the phone app to start working again by rebooting the device. Sometimes it still closes but I can at least make calls through it instead of having to go through contacts. The phone's processor is not going to cut it for you if you are needing to multi-task very much. An example of this is having apps like FB Messenger, Instagram and Etsy all open at the same time. Switching between apps that take up a lot of processing power and need to have data refreshed often will cause lags and cause shut downs of the apps ("Instagram has stopped responding" etc). Also opening certain apps like FB Messenger are pretty slow/sluggish. Sometimes I have to wait 30-40 seconds for an app to actually start working. Not a huge deal but can be a bit aggravating. I used google maps for my road trip over the weekend and it works great, but if you try and search for a new location or new direction - there is some lag/chug in the processing power. I am revising what I previously wrote on the camera to say it is actually better than "ok". I took some photos during my trip to Oregon and the outdoor photos were actually pretty stunning. Low light conditions are not great, but outdoor pics are actually very rich and detailed.
