Literally fried and crunchy chicken!!!
I purchased a refurbished one just in case it turned out to be a dud, but what a surprise! Look at these pictures! While I was pulling the chicken out of this unit, I was on the phone with my aunt (Southern Folks!) and she could hear the "frying" sound! Then I bit into this wonderfully crunchy chicken! Tasty! I actually used the rack and put 2 legs & a thigh on bottom and on top rack, so fried 6 pieces of chicken at one time. I did increase the time to 30 minutes, because I like dryer chicken, but this turned out crispy outside and juicy inside like most people like their fried chicken. Next time I will cook less pieces and maybe slightly longer, but not necessary. When I made my chicken I first put about a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in a ziplock bag to slightly cover the chicken, then I transferred the chicken into another ziplock with a little cornstarch, some flour, and some Bob's Red Mill corn meal pancake and waffle mix. The chicken went directly from there into the unit and 30 minutes later voila! (See pictures). I have also tried the obligatory frozen foods, fries, large shrimp, battered and breaded fish, and a burrito. I cannot wait to try pork chops, tempera vegetables, and fresh fish, oysters etc. My thoughts are towards dipping things in warmed up coconut oil to use the healthiest oil to fry in, while using very little. Just imagine apple turnovers etc. I am engaged for so many more healthy fried foods like fried okra, zucchini, onions, cauliflower/broccoli etc. Right now I have chicken marinating in some Tikka Masala sauce and will coat the chicken with a little yogurt before frying just to see how it turns out.
