This swing has been a lifesaver for us. Beginning at 4 weeks old and continuing now at 10 months, our son naps in this daily and we adore it. It has a quiet motor that begins easily with a little start. With 6-8 hours of daily use we've had no motor issues in 10 months. We've never used it with batteries but the adapter works well (and it's 110/220v so we use it in a 220v country). The music is not annoying and has clear tones, although we have a little over-memorized and would love greater variety with such repeated use. We use it reclined almost all the time because it's for sleeping, but do occasionally sit him up in it to play and it works great both ways. The ability to change the positions is great for "resetting" a baby who is struggling to sleep with a new view and sensation. This function requires a larger footprint for the base so does require a large space but we set up our living room around it and it fits into the decor great with these neutral colors. It is great to have a safe place to put your baby when you need to run to the bathroom or kitchen and know that even a mobile baby won't go anywhere and will be completely safe whether awake or asleep. Due to the bucket design we started with no straps when he was a newborn and added the waist strap when he started rolling over. Finally, we graduated to adding the chest strap when he starts trying to sit in the swing. It's amazing what "strapping" a baby down does for getting them to sleep too! We have been against letting our baby cry whenever we can avoid it and this swing has helped us avoid it and we use it for everything except nighttime sleep. When we traveled for a month, we attempted to borrow a similar swing so as to continue his napping routine. We borrowed the older version of this swing, which was battery only, no chest strap, and had very annoying music we couldn't stand to put on. It didn't work very well for getting him to sleep and made us greatly appreciate the improvements! Our son is currently 10 months and 18 pounds and we are dreading him growing out of this in a few months and wish they made a toddler edition! We jokingly call the swing our "nanny" because it gets me a safe sleeping baby for several hours a day. At least once a week my husband or I comment, "That is the best money we have spent on this baby!" and it is so true. I recommend this swing as a high priority purchase for anyone with a new baby!
