and by FAR the best. Full disclosure - I've only owned it for ...
I didn't buy this through Amazon, but since nobody has reviewed it here I decided to do so. This is my fourth swamp cooler since 1995, and by FAR the best. Full disclosure - I've only owned it for a day.
Last unit was an Arctic Cove 350 model. It leaked after one year of use, sucked air through it's flow control valve around the same time, and died after three summers, so it was time for a replacement.
At my work I used some Arctic Cove 500 and 700 models - used to think maybe I'd upgrade, but I will never buy that brand again.
This Hessaire is 1300cfm (the above mentioned Arctic Cove model numbers correspond to their cfm output). If it lets me down I will downgrade my rating, but for now: This is a no BS real deal swamp cooler. The fan is far enough away from the filter media that it shouldn't be a problem, the reservoir can be topped off while running, and none of this BS of having to shut the unit down and pull the reservoir out to refill. Of course the downside there is it will be a bit more maintenance intensive, but if you don't know that you don't know swamp coolers and you'd better either get yourself educated or just stay away from the entire genre.
I have two concerns upon initial impression though - the drain plug seems like a definite point of failure (leakage) in the future, and the control switch feels REALLY cheap and flimsy. Time will tell there....
Two of the wheel casters were so hard to push in I was afraid I'd break the entire unit.
But if you live in a royal hotbox of a place like I do and don't like paying hundreds of dollars for AC electricity this thing (again with only one day of ownership but many years experience with swamp coolers) is seeming like a winner.
EDIT 7-26-2018: This thing is performing. I've drained it twice (not out of need, just to inspect) and no issues with the previously mentioned concern about the drain plug so far. Best swamp cooler I've ever owned so far. It DOES use a lot of water on the high setting, but the low setting is still better than anything else I've owned and that lasts 8 hours. At this point my criticisms are few - the "door" for reloading water is a pain to close. I will have to be careful to not break the "latch". I also wish there was a timer mode for doing the 30 minute "airing out" of the filter media upon shutdown. But if this thing still works the same in summer of 2019 I will definitely upgrade my rating to five stars.
