I have had a number of Littermaids over the years. They have typically lasted a year or two, and I have been satisfied with that. For the current one I have, I finally wised up and got inspired by some Pinterest projects to "hack" my Littermaid. I raised it up, with the waste bin hovering over a large cut-out opening in a large Rubbermaid Drawer. I cut out the bottom panel of the littermaid waste bin, and insert a large trash bag, securing it to the bin sides with binder clips. I use masking tape or blue painters tape to create seals along the edges and to secure the bin in place. Waste then gets deposited into that big trash bag, inside the drawer. I have two large cats and I only have to empty the bin every 10 days to 2 weeks. This is the only way to go, in my book. Sometimes, of course, litter gets stuck to the bottom of the Littermaid so I am scraping it every couple of days. Besides this, I also have two water fountains PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain and a dry food dispenser Petmate Pet Café Feeder, 6 pound capacity, Pearl Tan. Each of those last about two weeks as well before having to refill them. When I travel and have a friend check on my cats, there is almost nothing for them to do but play with the cats!
