I don't have a house phone at all due to the expense and we don't miss it at all! However, when my parents came to visit (who do not own cell phones), I did not want to leave them in the house with no telephone alone. So I purchased a Magic Jack Plus. It was very easy to set up -- plugged it into my laptop running WinXP and it was very self explanatory from there. Within 10 - 15 minutes, I had my magic jack set up, I had my phone number, and I was ready to go. The magic jack PLUS plugs directly into the internet router (cable is provided) and you must plug it into a power outlet for power (an adapter is provided in the package). You do, however, need a computer to set it up for the first time and get your phone number. So far the magic jack plus has been working great. I've only had it for 3 days, however. If anything changes I will report back!
