At 14 gallons/day, this is cheap and effective but very slow if you're using it to cycle large (150 gallon+) tanks.
I wanted to write a review on this because I felt mislead by a lot of things after I had it running, and I was very concerned I was flushing money down the toilet. First, the 50 gallon unit does not produce 50 gallons of water/day, as most of the water you put in runs out as waste (1.4 to 3.6 ratio of good to bad water). It produces about 14 gallons per day. 36 gallons go down the drain. As the unit (4 stage RO+DI at 50 gallons) cost me about $60, and the carbon filter is only good for 1500 gallons (in!) meaning that I need to replace it (~$10) every 30 days, and distilled water at Walmart really only costs 88 cents per gallon, I thought I might have made a serious mistake. It turns out though, that even if I only got the initial 1500 gallons processed for $60, it ends up costing me about 16 cents/gallon of good water - that's 66 dollars (6 is for the 1500 gallons of tap water) over the 420 gallons of pure water you get from the 1500 of tap water you put in. At that point having to pay an additional $19 to replace the carbon and sediment filters every 1500 gallons, the cost drops down to about 6 cents/gallon (19+6)/420.
