It's works! Just keep trying!
We got a different cotton candy maker from a toy store before this one and it was broken right out of the box! The reviews for it were bad anyway so I decided to return it and get this one plus a floss sugar with paper sticks pack from Candy Express. The first time we used it we followed the directions by heating it up for 15 min. then adding one scoop of sugar. It yielded small bits of cotton candy. The kids enjoyed but I thought we'd get sticks full. The second time we used it I let the machine heat up for like 45 min.! This time after a few scoops of sugar it started to yield larger quantities of cotton candy. What also helped was that we made sure to only turn off the machine just long enough to load the sugar. Then we let the candy "floss" start to build up before we started in with a paper stick. What finally gave us a real stick of cotton candy was laying the stick against the edge of the top of the machine, holding it perpendicular (like across it level to the base) and turning it as if we were roasting a chicken or something! We found that one scoop of sugar gave us 1 stick of cotton candy. So if it's not working out for you keep trying! Make sure the machine is good and hot, once hot don't keep it off for too long, and keep the stick held above the machine.
