We bought this as a birthday gift for our five-year-old. Both he and his 2-year-old sister love it, and so do us parents. We had purchased two other similar devices and returned them (one didn't have as many charging options, and the other broke after one use), and this one is far superior. It's small, lightweight, and feels solidly built; my son's favorite color is red and so he loves how it looks. The screen can rotate and can also fold back onto the device, making it more like a tablet (and covering the controls, which is good if you're handing it to a cranky 2-year-old in a car). The controls on the device as well as the remote control are much more useful than those on the other products we tried - the remote is more responsive, and the controls allow you to go to the menu and interact with it easily. And it remembers where you left off when you're watching a DVD, unlike some of its competitors. The sound and image quality are surprisingly good. It can be plugged into the wall or charged via a car power adapter, and its battery life is better than many other similar devices. For only a few dollars more we were able to get a 4-year protection plan that I think will come in handy given how young our kids are and how easily accidents can happen. So far it's made two long road trips considerably more fun for the whole family, and has empowered my son to play DJ with his favorite CDs during family time, as well as to play DVDs from the library in a more hands-on and personal way than he ever could with our big TV and Xbox. He actually prefers this device over our other, perhaps more impressive media players, because it's his, and he can move it around and control it so easily. Cons: It doesn't come with headphones or earbuds, or any way to attach it to a car headrest, though if you write a review they apparently send you a headrest mount for free. I would have written this review anyway, but that's a nice bonus and we look forward to it! Also the power button is on the side and a couple of times our kids have turned it off accidentally while holding it. It might be better placed on the back edge or something, to make it a little harder to access.
