Dollar for dollar the best band with the best app!
I'm a health and benefits guy, and I've taken the time to buy/test/return the UP24, Misfit, and FitBit Charge HR prior to getting my UP2 and now UP3 (that review will take some time). Every tracker is different and your reasoning for purchasing one may direct you elsewhere, but dollar for dollar, for effective and accurate tracking of all your activities, nutrition, and sleep, combined with a motivational coaching app, the UP2 is an incredible value.
Lets start with the clasp, because i see people complaining about it. My wife who has like a 6 inch wrist (very small) was very skeptical about wearing this because she can never find a watch or bracelet that doesn't flop around. After 4-5 days she doesn't even notice she is wearing it. I'm 6'3" with much bigger wrists have had no problems with it either. You just have to find the right place to slide the clasp. The only problem i have with the clasp is the fairly large metal ring you slide the band through. It tends to flop just a little and could probably have been made smaller to stay out of the way. Comparatively to the FitBit, their clasp was flexible and very comfortable, but also bulky, and somewhat difficult to remove. since you could not wear that band in the shower (unlike the Jawbone), I had to remove it daily and that was a detractor.
Beyond the clasp, this band tracks what it says, does it accurately, and just as accurately as the UP3. The tapping has NEVER been an issue, and like some other comments, you just have to find the right spot and rhythm. Anyone tapping this thing 12 times is just a moron and looking for attention.
What really sold me on Jawbone as a brand over Fitbit is the app. Fitbit does a wonderful job of collecting data, but in my opinion leaves the user to interpret it. During my 3 week trial i found myself constantly checking the screen, or my phone, to see what i had accomplished. I earned tons of badges for exercising but I'm not really into badges. I wanted to learn about my fitness/nutrition levels and be a healthier me. At the end of the day, no one was making suggestions to change my behavior, or analyzing the data. That's where Smart Coach really won me over. For me (android/galaxy note user) the interface with the app for Jawbone is much cleaner, streamlined, and tells me exactly what i want to know without having to digest a page of data. Additionally, when i'm not getting enough sleep, or falling short of my goals, it gives me "I WILL" challenges that help motivate me to do better. The app is actually usable without a JAwbone tracker if you have a good enough smart phone, so I would encourage you to download it to see for yourself. It won't be fully functional but it will certainly give you a good peak at its potential.
In summary, for $100 bucks you get a splash proof, shower proof, (not submergeable) tracker that will help you accomplish your fitness goals. If you want to manage your fitness AND NUTRITION, I would recommend downloading the My Fitness Pal Calorie Counter app. It pairs with the jawbone device as well but is a little more user friendly and expansive if you are tracking things like sugar intake or are taking part in certain nutritional challenges to go along with your activities.
The UP3, which i still need more time with, currently doesn't do a whole lot more. It tracks resting heart rate, and is supposedly going to expand on that in the future but I would probably hold off until it can be user tested and verified. Feel free to track us down at 843 Benefits and we'll partner up to meet some challenges together! Photo attached is our Silver UP2 next to the black UP3. Very little difference. (Mainly a slightly thicker clasp on the bottom of the UP3 due to extra sensors.)
Make it happen!!
