A BARGAIN COMFORTER THAT YOU CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE BUYING! HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW...
To be honest, the cheap price of this comforter nearly scared me off. I had been shopping for a summer weight queen size to put in my duvet cover, and this was about a quarter of the price of even the least expensive comforters at BBB and Company Store. How could this possibly be any good? But all the four and five star reviews here persuaded me to give it a try, and I'm very happy that I did!
Right out of the package, the look and feel exceeded anything I expected. The outer shell of polyester microfiber had an attractive and muted white-on-white embossed pattern and a soft feel. The stitching appeared perfect and of high quality, though you're not going to get a fancy piped border at this price point. Surprisingly, it does have tie straps for duvet covers that include ties to hold the comforter in place. Additionally, the down alternative fill was well-distributed throughout the sewn-through squares, lofted nicely after it had been out of the packing bag for a few hours, and seemed an appropriate amount for a lightweight comforter.
Since most new fabrics are treated with some sort of finish that I always find objectionable, the first thing I did was wash and dry this comforter, and it came out perfectly. This bodes well for future launderings. And then it went into my duvet cover.
I tend to sleep a little on the "warm" side, and I have a memory foam mattress which doesn't help. So I was concerned that this comforter might not be light enough for summer use here in NYC, but it's a perfect weight--exactly what I was hoping to find. I know other reviews say this comforter is too hot--but since husbands and wives routinely battle it out in "the temperature wars," why expect agreement here on Amazon?
SO... what are you giving up compared to pricier comforters?
First, as nice as this one looks and feels, my daughter's basic Primaloft comforter from Company Store looks and feels even nicer. But is it four times nicer, which was the difference in price? Not even close. Plus, the look and feel matters a whole lot less if you're using this in a duvet cover.
Second, this comforter is not true to the size stated: it was two inches shorter in width, and three inches shorter in length. In a duvet cover, you want a comforter that's the same size or slightly larger, so it doesn't shift around. So this ended up being smaller than I expected, and it does shift a bit... but I'll live with it at this price point. However, I deducted one star for it not being true to the stated measurements.
Finally, while I might have listed long-term durability as a question mark for such an inexpensive comforter, some reviews (via follow-up postings) state that this isn't an issue, and I tend to believe that's true.
To sum up: sure, you can find nicer comforters at MUCH higher prices, but the price to quality ratio of this one is off-the-charts, and a "buy" recommendation doesn't get much easier than this.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision. I do try to answer questions posted in the comments section of my reviews.
