My company recently decided to move us into an “open office” environment, and as a software engineer and writer I’ve found it horribly distracting. Where I used to have sound deadening walls to block obnoxious speakerphone calls, spurious conversations, coughing and sneezing, forklift motors, hammering from the shop, and politely remind passerby’s that this is a personal work space, I now sit in a horribly noisy fishbowl. I am approximately half as productive as I used to be. I bought these headphones to create a quiet personal space in a very distracting environment, and I have to say these have been hand-down the best investment I’ve made! Don’t expect noise cancelling headphones to make all sounds go away: they don’t. And honestly, you don’t want them to. Putting them on my ears with the button off, they already provide nice isolation. They are the most comfortable on-ear headsets I’ve ever owned, and I can wear them straight for a 9 hour day without sweaty ears or pain. Turn the switch on, and the magic happens: everything, including my own voice, is greatly muted. Turn on some music at a very low volume, and it’s only me in the office. Listening to music and switching the noise cancelling circuit on and off, you’ll notice that the bass is boosted slightly with the noise reduction on. Audiophiles will probably complain that this colors the music a little bit, and they are correct, but I have to say that I love the sound. Low frequency noises (loud motors, air conditioners, speech, airplane and vehicle rumbling), are nearly completely gone. As a test, I sat in front of my home theater with an action movie going with a lot of explosions and low bass rattling the windows, turn on the headphones and it sounds like a inoffensive tinny TV. Turn on some music at a low volume, and I can read in peace and not even notice the movie is playing. I have no complaints at all about this unit. It’s got cables and adapters to plug into anything, the carrying case is excellent, sound quality is great, comfort is simply amazing, sound reduction is perfect for what I needed, and the price is right. You will not be disappointed!
