Gradual whitening that is convenient, fuss free, and affordable.
My girlfriend likes to tease me "If you're not whitening, you're yellowing," as she is a teeth whitening addict. She uses a variety of at home treatments and is obsessed with keeping her teeth their whitest, from toothpaste and mouthwash to gum, strips, and custom molds with LED treatment. She's spent over $500 in the pat 6 months, alone, on various kits and upkeep treatments. She has tried on numerous occasions to get me to invest in a system of my own, and even 'donated' her old systems and refills to me.
There are 3 things you need to know about me- 1. I have extremely sensitive teeth so, in the past, I have had some pretty negative reactions to strong solvents and whitening treatments. 2. I have an exceptionally bad gag reflex, so my previous experience with a UV treatment left me ill and was generally not a pretty sight, 3. I drink more coffee and soda than a human should be able to without having diabetes or the shakes. So, I'm a pretty tough consumer, given that my income doesn't allow me to shell our thousands for in office treatments, or hundreds online for a system that may or may not work. Here's how my AuraGlow experience went:
*The packaging was by far not the fanciest I've seen come through our house, but I did like that the guard came with it's own storage case, the syringes were easy to re-cap, and the box did hold these items when not in use. In fact, the box is a bit over-sized for the product and the items sort of slosh around inside, but it does ultimately work to store them.
* The UV treatment lamp actually attaches to the rubber mouth guard via a small suction track. This is a nice addition as some of the other versions I've seen require you to grip the light with your lips and can result in unsightly drooling. Since the average whitening session with this it is 3 10 minute sessions, or 30 minutes, having a stable, secure lamp is key to comfort.
*The syringes are labeled and the instructions state to use 1/2 mL per mold tray, or about 1mL a treatment. Going off of this you can expect 10 treatments with the initial kit purchase as 2 5mL syringes are included.
*Before whitening you can pre-treat your teeth with a complimentary buffing/polishing finger swipe. There is only one included, for some reason- my guess would be the company wants you to buy more from them? I prefer a pre-treat rinse- you should brush your teeth prior to whitening, regardless.
*The whitening gel itself was clear and has no tangible odor. It was easy to apply and resulted in no sensitivity, even with the 30 minutes of lamp/light exposure. This is probably due to the fact that it is primary carbamide peroxide, an ingredient readily found over the counter. My best understanding is that it's the dual reaction of the special blue LED light interacting with the peroxide based get that really has a whitening effect.
My teeth were not 'flash' white within a single use- I have years and years of stains built up. I have noticed 4 shades on the 20 shade scale, lightening in 4 uses. My teeth primarily look more even in color- many of the splotches of yellowing are fading. Since this system has no harsh taste, and is comfortable to wear (no gag issues for me) it is a viable option for regular use. The AuraGlow system is safe to use daily- and I intend on keeping up with it several times a week for a few months until I achieve my desired result. For me, it's not the speed of whitening, but the tolerance of the experience. No sensitivity, odor, taste, or treatment discomfort is far more important than flash whitening. If you are looking for a simple to use, comfortable, affordable system that will gradually whiten a shade at a time then this is the kit for you. I recieved a product discount in hopes I would share my honest experiences, which I have done.
