Rachel, First, I sincerely hope all is well with you and your family. I purchased your book after seeing your documentary on Netflix. My adult daughter and I watched your documentary again along with my 2 others adult daughters that hadn't seen it to get their opinions. It was unanimous that while we can agree it would have obviously been better to not have given the impression or insinuate that you were born Black, we are baffled by the seemingly outrage by other Black people who are historically a forgiving and compassionate people by nature. As a Black woman in my 60's with 3 adult daughter and 2 adult sons, I can emphatically say we are all too familiar with daily biases and racism that our people endure. As proud as we are of being Black, we did not choose our race. You, on the other hand did!!! You chose to adopt your Black siblings and have your own Black children, not to mention all the causes you vocally and physically stood for. My daughters and I commend and embrace you as the strong Black woman you are inside and out. However, we also agree you should make all obtainable and necessary sacrifices to protect your awesomely beautiful siblings and children especially, ie, perhaps staying off or limiting social media... our hearts go out to them. On a brighter note, we love your Afrocentric and artsy style and your paintings and artwork is absolutely fabulous!!!! Is it for sale? You are truly gifted and talented on so many levels. Make it work for you and your loved ones. :)) Deborah and daughters ;))
