I emailed the creators and received a fantastic reply concerning the Strength card. It irks me that people assume the worst without engaging in dialogue. It’s exactly what’s wrong with the world today. Long story short: The Lion is a statue with graffiti on it. The woman is entering into partnership with a fiery energy. The woman and the lion are meant to be a part of each other. The painter is LatinX and queer. They’ve heard the feedback and they have spoken to their publisher about re-releasing the deck in a year or two with a revision of this card and the inclusion of more diversity. I feel confident supporting this deck. If anything, the “controversy” around the card is a greater expression of Strength as a result.
