Mia PRIMA shipped with NEW DAILY RADIANCE Brush Head without Special Assembly Precautions
I selected a Clarisonic Mia Prima to replace my wife’s original Mia which no longer replenishes and holds a charge. The Prima arrived as others have described: USB charging cable without an adaptor, 62 pages of Precautions and Warnings in several languages but limited operating instructions and NO Information At All regarding compatible brush heads and brush head installation/replacement procedures. Moreover, the Prima arrived with a “New Daily Radiance” Brush Head. This new brush head is unlike all other brush heads in the Mia line and deserves some additional information which I could not find in the packaging, on the Clarisonic website, nor on Amazon or other Clarisonic retailers’ websites. So I chatted online with Tiffany at Clarisonic - no waiting and considerably helpful discussion. I have included images of the front and back of the new and older style Mia brush heads for comparison and orientation as you read my comments which follow: Viewing the back of the brush head (lower brush in Image #1) one can see a foil strip in the center with a clear Plastic holder inserted on top. The foil strip covers an ink-based "time-to-replace" indicator visible on the brush side of the head. The plastic holder has an elevated plastic piece which appears to be a “pull tab”. Precaution! This clear plastic piece IS NOT a Pull Tab and it must be left in place during assembly of the Brush Head into the Mia Prima body. Assembly is the same as with other brush heads but due to this plastic tab over the usage-time indicator foil backing, more effort must be exerted to assemble: First, align the three openings in the locking grooves on the outer circumference of the brush head with the three brass pins deep inside the inner body of the Mia Prima; then Push the brush head down FIRMLY into the Mia Prima body, and Rotate it clockwise until the brush head clicks into place in the Mia Prima body. As others have mentioned, this is easier to accomplish with the plastic brush protective and drying head cover in place. Also, placing the plastic cover onto the newer brush heads can bend out the outer brush hairs, so rotating the cover about ¼ turn while centering and fitting the cover into place over the brushes and clicking it onto the brush head helps to prevent crimping the outer brush hairs. This is too hard, so we will only use the plastic cover when traveling. Using the Ink Indicator: In the middle of the brushes themselves on the Daily Radiance Brush Head (lower brush in Image #2) is an off-centered OVAL-shaped hole. With repeated brush head usage over time this hole will fill in with an ink indicator. When the oval hole fills in completely (about 3-4 months in normal use), the fully colored oval indicates that the brush head may best be replaced for optimal performance. No ink is visible in the beginning, so simply look for a change in color within the OVAL. The “Daily Radiance” Brush Head is the only current Clarisonic Brush Head featuring this new, foil-backed “time strip” indicator which is actually better described as a “Usage Ink-Strip Indicator” (lower brush in Images #1 and #2). After Thanksgiving 2018 a second, new “Sensitive Skin” Brush Head will be introduced which also will feature this new foil backed time-usage ink indicator. What replacement Brush Heads are compatible with the Mia Prima? Tiffany says Most Standard Mia Brushes made by Clarisonic... EXCEPT: Specialty Brush Heads such as Clarisonic’s Firming Massage Head, Sonic Awakening Eye Massager and the body and pedi brush heads are NOT compatible with the Mia Prima. Finally, NONE of the brushes “rotate” – they only gently vibrate. On the Daily Radiance Brush Head and probably most others, only the center white brushes vibrate while the fixed outer brushes remain motionless. There are different brush firmness options for varying cleansing and exfoliation purposes. And there are several operational videos depicting optionally applying a little cleansing soap or lotion to the brush head before use.
