Fantastic!
Despite some of the negative reviews, I still purchased this watch and am sooooo happy I did. First, I want to address a few criticisms I read and then I'll give my own impressions of the watch.
Screen:
Some have said the screen looks nothing like the pictures advertised by the manufacturer. I do not understand what these people are looking for! The screen is fantastic! No, the pictures don't show EXACTLY what you get, but neither do other GPS screens look EXACTLY like their ads. The truth is the screen shots are a VERY GOOD representation of what you actually get. The screen is plenty bright and clear, in sunlight or shadow. If the screen appears washed out when you first look at it, simply rotate your wrist a little until the glare goes away. When you do this the image becomes crystal clear. These are slight movements I'm talking about. One thing I did, based on a suggestion in the manual, was reverse the screen color to black background, white characters. I'm VERY happy with the screen. Look at the photos I took with my iphone. What more could you want??
Touchscreen:
I read a few complaints about the difficulty in pinpointing the crosshairs or otherwise having problems using the touchscreen. Again, this is a relatively small screen. It's not a big smart phone! I do not have problems selecting what I need, however I did notice that fingerprints are easily left on the screen and can interfere with the visibility of it. I hate fingerprints on touch screens. I solved this problem by going to walmart and buying a $10 iFrogz stylus. It's small enough that I can carry it in my pocket like a long golf tee or use the clip to hook it on your bag somewhere. It doesn't leave marks or smudges and I'm sure improves the accuracy of pinpointing items on the screen. You can use a tee like some have recommended, but I'd be afraid of damaging the screen over time.
Wearability:
At least one person said they have trouble with accidentally hitting the scorecard button during their swing. I am a single digit player and have ZERO issues with the watch affecting or being affected during my swing. Admittedly, I do not wear a golf glove and I suspect part of the problem could be due to the glove's heel making contact during the backswing. If that's the case, I would suggest trying a cadet style glove (smaller heel), or turn the watch face so it's on the inside of your wrist. I do this when I practice on the range (see below) and it works great.
Battery life:
Some have said they are not happy with battery life. I have only had the watch a week, using it for three rounds. I charge the watch after every round. After each round I still have 75% or more charge. I'll continue to monitor this and will report back in a few weeks. If this performance continues, I'll be very satisfied. As one person pointed out, make sure your computer doesn't shut off the charging power if it goes to sleep. Mine does not. Garmin sells a charging base if you don't want to mess with the computer part.
My Impressions:
This watch is great! I was a little concerned about how it would feel to wear it while playing golf. I don't even notice it's there when I swing! It's very lightweight and comfortable. It doesn't feel at all bulky and I really like the white version I opted for. I feel fine wearing it anywhere.
The packaging was very good. Set up was a breeze. The manual that comes in the box is good, but go online and download that version. It's more complete without being laborious.
I have not used the strength meter yet but I have used the tempo training. It's a great feature and one of the main reasons I bought the watch. I am satisfied that the 3.0 ratio is indeed the optimum rhythm. (Not to be too technical, but it's actually training your rhythm more so than tempo). My only complaint is volume. The tones are not quite loud enough for me. I have no problem hearing them when all is quiet but if theirs sufficient ambient noise, e.g. background traffic, it's difficult to hear at address. I don't know whether the volume can be adjusted. I found that I can hear the tones better when I rotate the watch face to the inside of my wrist. I can't take away any stars because of this as the unit as a whole is wonderful!
