I think I got this feeder cause I wanted to see how the squirrels here would react to it. As usual, they didn't fail me.....they figured this thing out in a few days. I'll say right off that I like this feeder a lot. It really does have a good way of deterring most squirrels in the right conditions. In my case though, I never meant it to be for birds only. The birds found this little thing first. Just like others pics show, they flew right to it and held onto it sideways and went to town. That is until the squirrels came calling. After that, they dominate it like nobody's business. Here are some tips for making this "almost" squirrel proof. 1. Make sure the feeder is hung from a high tree limb and is strung up buy a thin wire or bread tie type of cord. Squirrels don't like having to go long distance down to get to it. They ain't to sure of themselves. 2. Make sure you secure the lid with a rigged device like I did (look at the pics I uploaded and it will give you an idea). It took a few minutes to stimey these suckers but after I came up with this idea they haven't been able to get the lid off at all. 3. The feeder says to use sunflower seeds only but I use regular style bird seed and it works just fine. Squirrels would rather have the sunflower seeds than the bird seeds. This is without a doubt the most entertaining bird feeder I've ever owned. It was well worth the $8 I paid for it. The squirrels can get the lid right off. They dip their paws right into it and just scoop out the seed. They can hold right onto the side of it just like the birds. Either or, I can accommodate both of em for maximum entertainment value. I posted pics in here to give you an idea what kind of "Einstein" squirrels I have here. They are most definitely on the top of the list of most intelligent mammals around here. ****Update - I uploaded a video to show the feeder in action.
