A great tracker that is finally worth the price
I purchased this device after wanting to buy some of the fancier trackers (that seem to be too expensive for what they really offer - a simple pedometer). This device is great because it does a lot of the things the fancier trackers do, but at a much more reasonable price. From the box, it says it tracks steps, distance, intensity, workouts, types of activity, idle time, active time, and calories burned (active and resting). Using the phone app you can manually log your mood, meals, drinks, calories, weight, water, nutrients, etc. It then keeps track of your streaks, goals, milestones, averages, and trends. It can also track your sleep (for this it recommends buying the optional wrist strap, see more on that below). The sleep trackers reports your total sleep time, how long you took to fall asleep, how many times you woke up, and how long you spent in light vs deep sleep. It seems to be pretty accurate so far. There is an option to re-calibrate the device to your stride if you walk a known distance (like on a track) so it can more accurately correlate your distance walked to your specific stride length. Since there's virtually no instructions included, here's a little bit to help people: You have to pop the device out of the clip holder to change the battery (Battery is a CR 2032, included). The device itself can be tough to get out, so I'm not sure how convenient it would be to switch it to the wrist band and back to the clip very often for the sleep mode. I'm just going to keep it clipped. Press the dial once to see the mode it is in currently (it displays either an orange running man for daily activities or a moon for sleep). It will also light up around the edge to show you your progress for the day. Hold the button down to switch between these two modes. Press it twice to see the time on an analog clock (first light shows hour hand second shows minutes hand). Press it once and then hold on the second press to start the stopwatch (blinking orange running man). The stopwatch mode is for timing activities it can't keep track of like biking. You can also change the device's mode from the phone app. See attached photo, the device is actually quite small! The UP app seems to run smoothly once you get it set up. If it doesn't pair properly, reinstall the app and try again. You can use it to set goals (for hours of sleep, number of steps, or weight). You can also form teams with other UP users. You can also have it give you reminders (it comes with bedtime, workout time, meal time, time for pill, and you can program other custom ones). You can also link it to other apps for integration with programs like MyFitnessPal. This tracker is brand new, but I also just saw it on the shelves at Target, you can pick one up there too. Overall it seems like this is an affordable tracker that can do a lot of what much more expensive models do. I am very pleased with after 1 day of use so far, hopefully it withstands the test of time (most other older jawbone trackers seem to complaints about durability) Go ahead and give it a shot! I will try to come back and update this post as I use it more. Edit: After owning the device for nearly 2 months, I still really enjoy it and still recommend it. It's been working very well and I wear it all the time. I personally leave it clipped to the front of my belt. It has never fallen off. I use it to sync with My Fitness Pal (for diet) and it is able to also track my nutrition and rate my meals on a 1-10 scale in terms of healthiness. The smart coach gives you challenges and goals and it makes it fun (for example: "You've walked 110 football fields in the past 3 days! Lets try to beat this goal in the next 3 days! Are you in? [click yes or no]"). Having a clippable device is perfect because you can clip it to your leg (for example) while at the gym riding the stationary bike and it will still record your activity. A wrist device can't do that. Great product! Absolutely no need for anything fancier. Edit: Still happy with the device, after 4.5 months. Battery just died, so it lasted this long. Replaced with a new battery, and happily continuing on. Edit: Finally ran into a problem after 10 months of ownership. The tracker has stopped responding well to my touch (didn't drop it or get it wet either). Contacted Jawbone and they are sending a replacement free of charge, so I'm still happy with it. I've been tempted by the fancier trackers that offer heart rate monitoring, but after reading about how unreliable they are once you start exercising, they seem pointless (especially coupled with the need to charge every couple days). So I'll still be keeping this one for now!
