very fragile but still recommended
ORIGINAL REVIEW great value. I already broke one when I dropped it from my second floor to the ground. Snapped in three. I won't remove stars because I'm not sure a $5 flashlight should live up to such abuse. I EDC and use it daily. So far, so good! UPDATE I just broke a 2nd one. This time, it fell out of my pocket about 2-3 feet to the floor. The problem is that it snapped in exactly the same spot as previous... Right before the "H" in Hatori. I put in a warranty request for new flashlights as there was clearly a manufacturer's defect in this batch / run. I'll update on any response, or lack of, that I get. UPDATE TWO I contacted the seller who replied quickly and said they'd get me new flashlights within three weeks, but I got them about one week later, so awesome! They said they'd talk to their manufacturer about the weak spot. I'm going to guess that I'm not the only one with this flaw. That said, I still recommend these lights. Other than fragile, they work very well and are a very good value. I'm okay with them being fragile, I just would've preferred to know that in advance. SOLUTION I wrapped the front end with gorilla tape with some tape leading off the front end as a kind of shock absorber. I once found a deal on streamlight's microstream for $12, but even then, that's more than the cost of two of these and I haven't dropped my microstream, so maybe it's not more durable? UPDATE THREE (button) I noticed someone said the button is harder to push than other similar lights... for me, that is a huge benefit as I dislike my lights going on without permission. The button is starting to get a little unreliable. This is fine as it still works. Also, I use this light a lot. I mean, a dozen times a day, every day. It's funny how you don't realize how useful something is until you start using it. UPDATE FOUR Well, I put one through the washing machine. I guess that can happen when you EDC stuff. And surprisingly, it still worked. It sometimes fails to turn on, but since it mostly works, mostly... then great!
