I have been a fan of this series since it first premiered on network TV. It seemed like it would be impossible to do a good job and making this series with the limitations of network TV at the time. I remember watching this when it first came out, having already read the book. To my surprise, it turned out to be a fantastic adaptation of the epic novel. The acting present is at an astounding level of professionalism, with many at the cusp of their breakout into stardom. I have had the DVD edition of this since it was first published many years ago. When they say this is a restored edition, they are NOT kidding. It was truly astounding to see the difference between this edition and the old DVD edition. You truly cannot begin to compare the two as the blu ray has a totally restored edition present on blu ray. The colors are absolutely striking, and they just pop off the screen. It is truly shocking to see an older format of a title that has been so successfully restored to a version that I have to say goes way beyond the original DVD version. The clarity is very close to 4K representation in many of the scenes. My personal belief is that The Stand is one of King's best accomplishments. While I believe that most of the roles are played by actors that truly resemble the book version of the characters, I have to say that Molly Ringwald just doesn't quite seem to fit the character from the book. Even with that small complaint, I believe it still stands as one of the greatest adaptations of King's works. If you have the DVD version and are wondering if this is worth the upgrade............just STOP, and throw that old thing away. This Blu-ray edition presents The Stand in what I believe is truly a MAGNIFICENT version of this classic mini series. While there are no new extras for the Blu-ray, the advances in the video and audio are worth a new purchase of this great series.
