Excellent meter for price. Purchase AC Line Splitter for best use.
I purchased this clamp meter primarily to measure current/amps on 120 volt appliances, heaters, etc. To do this with ANY clamp meter, you MUST separate the hot and neutral conductors or they will cancel each other out and give a zero amp reading. The most convenient way to do this is to place an AC Line Splitter between the wall receptacle and the load. Most splitters have an X1 and X10 opening. If you place the meter's clamp in the X1 position, you receive a direct amp reading. In the X10 position, you get amps times 10. You divide the reading by 10 to get the correct amps. In my testing, I placed a 23 watt CFL lamp as the load with the AC Line Splitter between the receptacle and lamp plug. I received an X1 reading of .200 amps. The X10 reading was 1.99. Divided by ten, the amps reading becomes .199. This is very close to the computed number of amps. The meter is of good quality and has batteries loaded and ready for use. It comes with test probes, case and instructions. I think it is a very good value. It is easy to use and read. The reason I stress the importance of splitting the line is that in reading many reviews of many meters, it is obvious that many people don't understand the necessity. They then write negative reviews.
