BRAND COMPARISON
Brand comparison: Looking to ride out a long, hot Florida summer, I bought a bunch of similar dresses from four different brand names. Each brand was a bit different from it's competitors. My first concern was length - I wanted something that would cover my knees - so I am presenting my findings in order of length. But, before I do that, here are my current stats: 5'6", 125 lbs., 36/29/37, short torso, A cup. My usual size is somewhere between a small and a medium (US sizes). Here goes:
TOMSWARE - I really liked the fabric on this one because it was heavier than the rest. It was thick enough to drape nicely while slightly smoothing my flubby spots, yet it was not too heavy for those who (like myself) overheat easily. It also was not see-through, even though the one I ordered was mostly white. Deal breaker: too short, about 3" above my knees.
MEASOUL - I loved this fabric! So soft, just like pj's! Unfortunately, this one was also too short, about 1" above my knees.
HEROU - The fabric on this one was just a tad too nylon-ish for my taste. I'm sure many would like it's silkier feel, but I was hoping for something that felt more like an old t-shirt, so it was not to my preference. Also, this one wasn't long enough, either - it only covered about 1/2" of my knee.
FENSACE - The solids are different than the prints. The fabric on the solid colored dresses is more densely woven and less stretchy, & the length only covered the top 1/2 of my knees. The prints were made of a lighter fabric (similar to a t-shirt, but thinner), and the hem landed just below my knee. DING DING DING! We have a winner!
Fit in width:
In the Fensace prints and the Measoul, either S or M would have worked for me. I went with the medium, but if I was younger (ie. less
lumpy/tighter skin) I would have probably gone with the small.
In the Tomsware and the Herou I needed the medium.
In the Fensace solids, only a small would do.
Will you need to wear something under it?
Well, that all depends upon how modest you are. I'd say that the answer is "unlikely" for any of the Tomsware dresses, and "almost
certainly" with any of the lighter colored Fansaces. All of the rest fall somewhere in between. I'll have to leave it to your discretion.
Correction: The Herou brand dress with the white background was a bit silky and too short for me (as I said), but different Herou I ordered from the same listing was the same fabric and fit as the Fensace prints (sorry - I don't know the number, but it was dark with little flowers).
