Still love it after 4 years!! Perfect for smoothies, protein drinks, omeletes and baby food!
I can't even say how much I love this appliance! Everyone needs one!! I just had to write this review to defend the Magic Bullet because people are using it wrong and then leaving bad reviews. I know I base many of my purchases on reviews and don't want others to miss out on this wonderful item!! I have had mine for about 4 years now and I still love it!!
To start:
1) YOU MUST GIVE IT ENOUGH LIQUID TO ENABLE THE ITEMS YOU ARE BLENDING TO MOVE AROUND SO THEY CAN GET CHOPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you watch it blend, it forms a WHIRLPOOL in the cup from the top to bottom and your chunks of food get sucked into that and bring it right down to the blade! If you don't have the liquid to do that, there will be no whirlpool and your food won't move around well, then you will get mad and leave a bad review..lol.
2) THE RING SEAL ONLY FITS WELL 1 WAY. IF YOU FORCE IT TO FIT THE OTHER WAY..AND YOU CAN..IT WILL LEAK AND MAKE YOU HATE IT EVEN MORE, thus leaving more of a bad review! If it doesn't just slip right in WITHOUT ANY EFFORT, flip it over and try again!!
These 2 things are seriously the main tricks to using this and loving this!! So, for smoothies, I fill up the container with veggies and fruit of my choice. I prefer to use some frozen fruit because then it also takes the place of ice cubes! It is perfect, plus ice dilutes the yummy flavor! I don't even bother with ice. I pack that little cup as full as I can with fruit and veggies and then I fill it up to the top with mostly juice and some milk just for the neater color. Trust me, it works, it amazing how much liquid fits in between all the random cracks between fruit pieces. It chops everything!! It has always chopped my frozen fruit very well and it will chop raw carrots and celery within my same smoothy perfectly!! I was super impressed by those 2 veggies(perfect in smoothies for added nutrients and you barely taste them..perfect for kids to get their veggies in..oh so sneaky)! Carrots are very hard and it blends them right up! And celery..it chops all the stringy stuff..so you are left with no strings..all you see are tiny specks of green throughout your smoothy! Just awesome!! This is with the larger 4 blade top. It is surprisingly yummy with a hint of celery! Kids still love them!
I also used this to make chocolate peanut butter protein shakes! So good!! It is like a dessert! It blended in the powder and chopped up the chunky peanutbutter so well! It was very smooth and good, no gritty feel like blending by hand. 4 blade for this as well.
With omelets, I love the flavor of peppers in it, but don't want the chunks so I throw in a bunch of colored peppers, tomatoes, eggs, milk, cheese even and sometimes spinach and just blend it all up until it is a colorful egg mixture! Then just poor right into the pan with a touch of olive oil! Of course if I add meat and more cheese, I don't blend those. Yummy!! It is just awesome!! I love my omeletes so much more now or even just scrambled eggs. Also use the 4 blade.
For babyfood, you can blend any meal you are having with this to make it ultra smooth for baby. I have blended a variety of squashes..just add enough milk (or water) to make sure it can mix well. Anything you see sold in jars as baby food, you can make at home! Spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese, pot roast..seriously anything!! Any fruits (mix with juice or water to blend) and any veggies!! It is awesome and so good for baby and you save $$$!! For most of these items, I use the smaller cup and the smaller 2 blade. Again, just add enough liquid to make it work. Plus, thinner the better for babies. They have a harder time if it's thicker..it's easy to add more liquid til you get the hang of it!
Another trick I want to mention is with the RING SEAL that is located with the blade around the edge within the lid. This frustrated me for the longest time until I realized it only fits well 1 way. I never understood why sometimes, it just fell right into place and other times, I really had to work at it and manually press it in and go around the whole thing! It would work..usually..both ways. It would usually leak a little though by the end of blending. So annoying! Well, it should just slip right in-everytime!! If you have to work at it, flip it over! I wish I would have paid attention and figured that out much earlier. You also need to take that seal out everytime and clean it too. Food particles can get stuck under it which is just gross, but you can't really see them. I won't lie, it is sometimes a pain to get out. Wish it had a tiny little pull tab to be able to grab and pull up on :) Usually, with a hard flick of the wrist, it will come flying out (if you are lucky) or a tiny part of it will loosen up just good enough to get a finger under it. Sometimes, while cleaning under a fast stream of water, the water will start to lift it up a little too. Air dry both seperately and then put them back together when dry.
Okay, I think that pretty much covers it. They sell a neat Magic Bullet blender set at Costco and often have coupons to get a great deal. This is one of my favorite appliances along with my salad shooter for the kitchen and when it dies, I will most definately buy another one immediately! Hopefully though, it will last a while.
