Excellent Quality Contemporary Mini Fireplace Heater
I bought the Crane Mini Fireplace Heater with the original intention of having it at my desk at work for some winter ambiance, but after seeing it in person, I have decided to keep it in my bedroom at home where I can really enjoy it.
It comes nicely packaged in a white box from Crane. The box says "Electric Fireplace Heater" with a picture of whichever fireplace you ordered (Red, White or Orange) and a few basic specs. Within the box is a good amount of padding to prevent damage during transportation as well as the fireplace and instructional booklet.
I ordered the red version of this fireplace. I couldn't decide between white and red, originally. I was concerned that the red one would be too obnoxious of a red but it's actually a very nice cherry red, not an orange-red like I was perhaps expecting. The red is nice enough that it makes the fireplace eye-catching during the day but it's a dark enough red that in the dark the exterior of the fireplace just sort of fades away into the blackness of the room allowing the focus to be on the flames. I cannot say for sure since I haven't seen the white one in person but I can only speculate that in the dark, the exterior/border of the white version might be a little bit distracting, if that makes sense.
The flame animation itself is very smooth and realistic. It is fairly random so your eyes will not be able to pickup any perceivable patterns like sometimes happens with low-quality electric fireplaces. Some coals/embers glow with a dark orange in the foreground which gives the fireplace some nice depth. The face of the fireplace is glass but since most people will be using this fireplace at night or in a dark room, you won't likely have any issues with reflections unless you have a TV or a lamp directly across from the glass.
It has three settings: Glow, 750W and 1500W. With the Glow setting selected, the flames and embers are on but no heat emits. In the Glow setting, the fireplace is virtually silent. You will not be able to hear it at all unless you have your ear pressed right up against the side, and even then you will only hear a faint sound which is the small gears spinning the device within to make the flame patterns. With the 750W or 1500W settings selected, you will hear a faint humming just like any average indoor electric heater. It is overall a very quiet device that will easily be drowned out by other sounds in your house/room such as TV, music, ceiling fan, etc. Leaving this heater on for 20-30 minutes in average-sized bedroom will heat it up very nicely. Obviously these types of heaters use a lot of electricity when you are using the heated options, but that is not a fault of this product and it just to be expected when using this type of electric heater. Don't be surprised to see your electricity bill jump up if you use this heater to heat your room every single day of the week.
Overall this product is very good quality for how reasonable the price is. I have already received numerous compliments on it from friends and a few friends have asked me if I would order them one for Christmas as well, which I might do. If you are looking for a contemporary piece of relaxation to add to your bedroom/office/living room and don't want to spend more than $100, I really doubt you will find many products out there better than this. If you are debating on which color to go with, keep the following in mind:
Red:
+exterior is darker so the fireplace itself disappears in a dark room, allowing the focus to be on the flames.
+has a cosy feel to it since red generally evokes warmth, security and relaxation
White:
+most versatile of the three colors so it will match the decor of any room in your house regardless of wall colors, etc.
+very contemporary, clean look
Orange:
+very eye-catching, a statement piece of the room that people won't miss even if it's turned off.
+most unique of the three colors, no other company out there makes a bright orange electric fireplace.
I hope this helps some of you in deciding whether or not this is the right purchase for you, or if yes, which color to go with.
Cheers!
