Because of boric acid's antiseptic, cleansing nature, it is often used as an eye wash.Boric acid has been used for centuries as an eye wash. The substance is well-known as a treatment for fungal and bacterial eye problems. Boric acid also can be used as a rinse to rid the eye of foreign matter. Long before saline solution was used to cleanse the eye, boric acid was a mainstay in the home.Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of the mucous membranes in the eye. Boric acid as an eye wash solution helps by treating the bacterial infection and soothing inflamed eyes. To make boric acid eye wash, use pharmaceutical grade boric acid powder. For mild infections, dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of boric acid powder in one pint of hot water. After the solution cools, store it in a sterilized bottle in a dark place. Moderate eye infections require one teaspoon of boric acid powder per one quart of water. For serious eye infections, mix one teaspoon of boric acid powder with four ounces of water."
