Nice, light portable air conditioner.....
I wanted to purchase an air conditioner for emergency uses only to use with my portable generator in case we lose power during and after a storm. I needed a unit that would cool about 265 sq/ft. ( small office/room, bathroom and small kitchen). I use to be in the commercial air conditioning business, so I know about air conditioners, BTU ratings and wattage's,etc. After 3 weeks of searching and reading hundreds of reviews on all portable Ac's , surfing the web for hours looking for the right one, I couldn't find any units that were rated with 5 stars. I even went to Home Depot and Lowe's and thought about buying a small energy star 6000 Btu window unit, but didn't want to mess with lifting it and installing it in the window when the time comes. Well, I found this Honeywell unit, which did actually have 4.2 stars. I liked the fact that it was a 8000 BTU unit with a low amp rating, low watt rating and it did not weigh that much. The actual amps and watts are higher than listed by the manufacture. I snapped some pictures showing actual readings using my Kill-o-watt meter. I can deal with the higher wattage and amps because it is not too far off from the rating + it still will not place that much load on my 3400 watt generator. I also took a photo with my laser thermometer showing discharge temp from the discharge register. As I type this review, the actual temperature in my office where I am testing the unit shows 69-70 degree inside room temperature and is 87 degrees outside temp...not bad. The only thing I wished it had was oscillating vents, but that was not a deal breaker for me. I also want to say how easy it was to set up and install the discharge hose in the window. Took me 3 minutes. I hope my review helps you with your decision.
