Of the 56 signatories to the Declaration of Independence, only ONE was a medical doctor, Benjamin Rush. He fervently warned the others, "Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic, and have no place in a republic. The Constitution of this republic should include special declaration of medical freedom as no less important than religious freedom."
Sadly, Jefferson and the others were unable to imagine that people would ever be foolish enough to let the state declare what constitutes "approved treatment," and more importantly, "unapproved treatment." Dr. Rush's warnings went unheeded, and today we have a medical police state, placing citizens in custody and forcing unwanted treatments upon them against their will; and preventing other citizens from seeking whatever treatment they want from whomever they choose; and incarcerating healers who don't have the government stamp of approval.
