There is materials on the inside of this that is like a giant elastic band, which makes this binder super snug yet strechy and comfortable. True story: this binder is so effective it made my son cry with happiness. As a matter of fact, that's the only reason I'm bothering writing a review at all - to maybe help other Mothers of non-binary kids, with the overwhelming binder options available. It's too soon for us to tell how it stretches out over time, but so far this has been well worth the $ and I've already ordered another one.
