like it was her job to protect us and herself
Had to come back here to write a quick review. This collar has transformed our pet. Our 15 lb. cavachon was one of those typical anxiety-ridden small dogs. Sure, she had times where she was totally relaxed, but often she was on “high alert”, like it was her job to protect us and herself. She could see the street out of the windows, and the sight of any dog, pedestrian, biker...would have her barking like a maniac. And omg, if anyone or anything ever came to the door, she went insane. Barking and twisting in circles like the Tasmanian devil. She also had a bad habit of “protecting” certain items (food, smelly socks, garbage she had snagged) at unpredictable times and becoming aggressive and biting if we got near her. All of this to say, we bought this collar two months ago after my husband started working from home. Her frequent barking was just too disruptive to him. Well, we should have bought this collar years ago. I didn’t know it existed. I thought the only shock collars available were the ones where the owner has to press a button and deliver a shock. That wasn’t appealing to me as it seems mean. This collar isn’t mean at all. I gave myself a shock to test it. It’s uncomfortable but not too painful. My dog learned quickly. She was scared after the first shock and wanted to be held a lot, but soon she really just mellowed out and learned that barking for no reason isn’t necessary. She may bark once, but then she hears the beep warning and doesn’t bark again. Just like when she was trained to our electric fence, she often doesn’t wear the collar and she’s very good. Seems to have lost her nervous, high anxiety need to bark. She is a more peaceful, happy, calmer dog now. I think she feels relieved of the burden to be in charge somehow. Anyway, best purchase ever!!!
