I have always been a fan of the Otterbox Commuter series. It is a great compromise between the bulkier Defender case and the lighter weight, thinner cases that are predominant in Amazon's offerings. Because Otterbox has been late in releasing the Commuter case, I've been using a thin case made by Supcase for the last few weeks. While the case looks sleek and stylish, it doesn't offer the same level of protection that an Otterbox offers. I had both a Defender and Commuter case for my iPhone 3GS and they were both perfect in terms of fit, form and function. However, Otterbox has had a number of missteps in subsequent releases and my faith in their products has not been as strong. As an example, the plastic shell for the black 4S Commuter case was severely undersized and did not fit properly around the rubber layer. My confidence decreased even more when the Defender became available because it appears to have a number of design issues (see the reviews on Amazon). Well, the Commuter series for the 6 plus was finally released and I am happy to report that they are back headed in the right direction. Here is an overview of the product: Pro's: - Overall case fit and design is very good to excellent - Offers great impact protection - not quite Defender level but very close - Deep beveled lip provides solid screen protection. Much more than most cases. - Covers for the earbud and lightning jacks. One of the most common iPhone repairs is lint and dust build up in these jacks. - Enough space around the lightning jack opening that it should fit most cables. I have 3 different brands of lightning cables and they all fit. Same can be said for the headphone jack. - Screen protector included. I already have an existing screen protector so I cannot comment on this item. Con's: - Relatively expensive - Adds some bulk and weight - Not as stylish as some of the other cases. - The fit between the plastic and rubber layer is not perfect. There are gaps between the front plastic frame and rubber layer. While this doesn't affect the protection level it is a visible flaw. The Commuter case is not perfect. It is not the most fashionable case available. It does not provide the strongest protection. However, if you are looking for a case that looks good and offers a great compromise between size and protection then look no more. Based on my search, I do not see any other case that offers the equivalent design and protection in the market today. I now feel confident that if I drop or bump my 6 plus, there is a high probability that it will survive with minimal or no damage. 12/10/14 Update: After having more time with the case, the fit between the plastic frame and rubber layer have adjusted and the fit is much better. While some of the other phone versions of the Commuter Case seem to go together easier this one took a little time. With that being said the design and fit of the case is much better than my initial observation and there really is no visible gap between the 2 layers.
