The best battery pack for a laptop or switch
I got this battery pack to go with my new MacBook Pro 2017, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Since there are two parts to this product (the Powercore itself and the charger, which can be bought separately for about $27), I'll focus on each one individually. First, the Powercore itself. The hardware is fantastic, with an aluminum casing all around, and a nice clicky button on the top to check the charge. Its big and heavy, weighing about 1.3lbs, but it also feels extremely well built. The 2 normal USB ports supply enough power to charger my Moto Z (2600mAh) from around 10% to full in a little over an hour, while the USB-C port gives a full 30W to my Macbook Pro touch bar. I’ve also tested it with my younger brothers Nintendo Switch and it managed to deliver a little under 1% per minute while playing Mario Kart 8, which is about the same as the official Nintendo wall charger. The Powercore doesn't seem to get too hot, even when charging 3 devices at once. I measured surface temps at about 97 F. The real question is how many devices can you actually charge using the full 26800mAh capacity, and for how long? To figure this out, I charged the Powercore to 100%, and then proceeded to use it to charge my phone, as well as an iPad mini and a Switch.  After about 3 hours, everything was fully charged and the Powercore was at 47%. I then used it to top up my MacBook from 70% to 100% and the Powercore was at 29%. So basically, you can expect the Powercore to charge nearly all of your devices at least once. Moving onto the included wall plug, it’s a USB-C plug rated at about 30W. It’s a little bit smaller than the MacBook power adapter, and it has a blue light on the front to let you know your device is charging. It was able to charge the Powercore from 30% to full in about 3 hours in my testing. Considering the capacity, this is pretty impressive. The plug should also be able to charge any USB-C product, although not at the fastest speeds, and I can’t guarantee everything will work. In testing with my MacBook Pro, it was about 50% slower than the included 61W plug. The plug also got really warm while charging, about 115 F, but this didn't seem to affect charging speed. The plug is what really makes this product complete, as you aren't waiting for 5+ hours for your battery pack to charge. I have two relatively minor complaints with this product. First, the Powercore doesn't seem to support pass through charging, meaning that you can’t plug your phone in to the battery, then the battery into the wall to charge both. The second is that the included cables are a little lackluster. For the price of the Powercore + charger combo, I would like to see braided cables included in the box. I ended up using some other USB-C cables I’ve already bought from Anker. Overall, I would say this is almost certainly a must buy if you have a laptop that supports USB-C charging, a Nintendo Switch, or if you really need a huge battery. It is expensive, it is big and heavy, but I think that for the functionality and capacity you get, it is well worth the price.
