Exceptional concept, good bottle, app needs work
1 YEAR+ UPDATE: I have now been using my Thermos Smart Lid for over a year-all day, every day. The bottle still tracks perfectly in the Thermos app, but it hardly ever syncs with the Fitbit app. I still carry it everywhere (I only buy purses that it will fit in) and I keep it by my bedside at night - I can't stand not to get credit for all my sips! I've gotten so used to being able to have a drink of water wherever I go that I feel like I'm missing something if I accidentally forget it when I go out. I've actually dropped it about 10 times over the year, full of water and always on a hard or concrete floor :( and I've been amazed that nothing has cracked or stopped working. The bottle is starting to look a little bit scuffed up though, so I'm probably going to order another one. WHY, you ask, given it's issues? Despite the Fitbit sync issue, I still love the bottle-and it never stopped working for me in the Thermos app. I've lost 55 pounds now and the water has had such a lot to do with that. I'm better hydrated now than I've been in my life. I recently investigated another brand but it's reviews were much worse so I'm going to stick with the Thermos. I really wish they would fix the bug in their software, though!
I have been using my Thermos Smart Lid bottle for 7 weeks. My experiences are similar to those of many other reviewers, both positive and negative. I did thoroughly read the reviews before purchasing the bottle. The negative reviews were enough to make me cautious, but I often take negative reviews with a grain of salt. Often, other factors are at work, such as uninformed and unrealistic expectations or consumer use that is not consistent with product instructions. The concept of the product convinced me to purchase it.
WHY I BOUGHT IT: 1. I'm definitely a sucker for cool, new gadgets. 2. I needed to lose weight and also wanted to add some healthy elements to my life (hydration in this case).
A day or so previous to ordering the THERMOS bottle I had purchased a Fit Bit Charge HR and the Aria scale. As I scanned through the listed Fit Bit partners I found the ad for the Thermos app integration. This was my only reason for purchasing the Thermos brand, as I did see one or two other brands out there. The Fit Bit integration was pivotal. Previous to this, I had never purchased any water bottle and my level of hydration on a daily basis was pretty low. I drank coffee and Diet Coke all day, (I know-don't judge me!) and there were days when I barely drank 8 oz of water, if that. I needed to create healthier routines.
BOTTLE/APP SET-UP: Super easy - just like pairing any simple Bluetooth device to my apple devices - way easier than getting my Aria scale to sync to Bluetooth. Integrating with the Fit Bit app was seamless and easy. It synced immediately.
THE THERMOS AND APP FROM 1ST DAY TO 5 WEEKS: The app is buggy. Other reviewers have noted this. The app has lagged from day one and sometimes crashes the iPhone and causes it to restart - a lot. It is not hyperbole to say that no iPhone I have owned over the years ever did that even once. I was quite shocked at this. That said, the app offers a lot of cool features and did communicate consistently with the Fit Bit app. Some reviewers have complained that it only syncs with Fit Bit when you finish a bottle of water. That is true, but that is explicitly stated in the Thermos ad. The most annoying aspect of this is that it doesn't sync when you finish a bottle, but only when you refill. I feel the ad is misleading in this aspect. The UI of the Thermos app is much better than what you get on the Fit Bit side, but that's not Thermos' fault.
CARE OF THE BOTTLE: Since I followed directions and only put water in the bottle, there is relatively no clean up to do. Some reviewers complain about not being able to put it in the dishwasher. Not to be condescending, but were they really expecting to put any kind of Bluetooth device in the dishwasher or even to submerge it? And if you only put water in the bottle, why would you need to do that anyway?
THE BOTTLE/APP 5-7 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE: The app has completely stopped syncing with Fit Bit. The Thermos app still works perfectly, but I am now manually toggling the water consumption part of the Fit Bit app, based on the Thermos app. The Thermos app has lost some of its accuracy also. I've read some reviews that suggest recalibration, but most also say that doesn't work for long. I'm disappointed that it doesn't sync with Fit Bit anymore, since that's why I purchased it to begin with.
DO I RECOMMEND THE THERMOS SMART LID? Yes. Even though I'm somewhat disappointed,, I still love it. I take it everywhere, even to very nice restaurants. I bought a purse large enough to carry it and conceal it if necessary. I've hit my water target almost every day and I feel a lot better. Most of my joint pain is gone, since I drink water instead of soda. I've lost 22 pounds, and I know the hydration is a big part of it. I love the reminders the app sends me to remind me to drink water. I hope that Thermos and. Fit Bit can get the apps working better.
