Great shelf for the money
I was on the fence about this purchase because of all the back and forth reviews. Some people were frustrated and claimed cheap construction; parts didn't fit right; didn't come with assembly instructions; screws pulled right out, dowels weren't the right size; the list goes on. But then there were reviews claiming a great buy but no details provided. So I questioned whether those people were hacks and just slapped this cheapo thing together and were just happy because they don't care, or whether the complaints were legit. But a $60 shelf; I feel you can't lose.
Two big thumbs up for this one! It is particle board furniture. Well placed, pre-drilled holes for every piece. Even the backing panels had predrilled holes for the brads. It comes with all the hardware you need and clear, easy to understand assembly instructions, even hardware for mounting it to a wall for more stabilization. You need a screw driver and a light weight hammer. 25 minutes from pulling the box into my kitchen to completed assembly. It looks good and stands sturdy on the floor. And we are using for extra pantry space. It is sturdy enough to hold up more weight than just DVDs.
Now on to the whiners here in the review section.
-Yes, it comes with instructions. You have to remove everything from the box, dummy. The instructions were between the packing foam and box.
-The pre-drilled holes are exactly where they need to be. If you follow the instructions, they have pictures, you see how to layout the pieces. Hardware goes right in.
-Whoever claimed all the screws stripped out, the instructions say you need a screw driver, not a power tool. It's particle board. Good job, rookie.
-The dowels aren't supposed to fit tight. I laughed when I read that quibble because, yeah, I bet your dowel isn't big enough. They help align the pieces and help square it up during assembly. That's it.
-Someone said the shelf fell right over after they finished putting it together. The floor board is wider than the rest of em and it is labelled in accordance with the instructions. I can only imagine how sloppily you put it together.
Ok, I'm done with my rant. I like the shelf. It was worth my money.
