Really love this little vac
Getting a miniature vacuum makes good sense if you spend time in a motor home, have a car interior to clean, or live in a small apartment. The Bissell Zing has many good features, a couple of weird ones, and one drawback. Here they are:
1. The suction on this thing is IMMENSE. No wonder it comes with a dial to regulate the amount of air pulled in. It literally sucks the vacuum to the floor. Running it over upholstery nearly changed the color of the couch, it removed so much dust. The power of it makes it wonderful for tall draperies, lampshades, too. Picks up dog hair great. It works so well on hard floors that just holding it in front of the refrigerator pulled dust from the coils without touching them.
2. The vac is TINY. It is not much bigger than a beach ball. The various tips included for crevices are so small the whole bag of them fits in the palm of your hand. The wand is short, although it extends, it doesn't extend enough for me to use it and stand up. I'm not tall but that did mean having to bend to get the wand to the floor, and a large place done that way would make for a back ache.
3. NOT FOR CARPET. The manufacturer did not include ANY attachment to make this thing work on carpet. This is strictly a hard floor or upholstery cleaning device. Okay, I guess if you are diligent you can run it over your carpet, but there's no beater bar.
4. The manufacturer needs to think a little more about consistency of quality. The wand or tube that connects the flexible hose to the suction head is heavy stainless steel, perfectly engineered to have an internal extension. It is actually quite heavy and feels like fine quality machinery should. The flexible hose is the cheapest, easy to crush or crack plastic possible. It feels like what you'd get on a very cheap child's toy. It is not flexible, either, it is so stiff that no matter how you place the thing it stays stuck in the shape it was in in the box.
5. The cord extension/retraction button is conveniently placed right on top so you can use your toe to haul in the cord. However the cord itself is very short. Fine for a motor home but annoying in a house to have to plug it in again in every room.
6. It doesn't roll very well. It has wheels and they turn, but they are the same type of cheap plastic as the flex hose, and they turn as if there are no bearings or metal in them - plastic on plastic that kind of sticks. If you're in a smaller place you may not need to wheel it much. I found that trying to guide it around by the warped hose on wheels that didn't turn well made it want to flip over.
With the few negatives aside, I still recommend this little vacuum if you have a use for it. I'd get it for the upholstery alone because it is small and light enough to carry around in one hand while you use it on the sofa with the other. It does a great job of that. As a home vac I recommend it for small places with no carpet.
