I was looking for the cheapest possible way to do a convincing realistic kind of fireplace display with just LED lights and no heat. These actually work very very well for that I am totally surprised. Now you can spend two or $300 on electric logs that you plug in and some of them have heaters. My parents actually just put in a $4,500 natural gas log insert. Well that is pretty darn expensive. But I decided I really didn't need the heat. And I discovered these bulbs and some videos online that make them look like a possibility. So we just actually used the logs that I burned my last fire with and they did not burn down too far so they're absolutely realistic. And as you can see I had a pretty nice grate, and a nice glass and wire enclosure. I mounted 2 sockets on a 2 x 4 and ran a wire out the left side of my fireplace where there was a nice little Gap. It took a while to arrange the logs just so so you can kind of see the plastic bulbs but not the tops of them because that kind of gives it away. But if you just see the side plastic through the logs it's pretty convincing of a little fire. Honestly I think this is about as good as some of these $300 fire Log sets with electric lights behind them. And the nice thing is I can always pull the light bulbs out and light a real fire if I really want to. There's one thing about these bulbs in that is if you turn them on and then turn them back on again they change modes to like a solid orange light or a flashing orange light and then back to a flame flashing orange light. So it's not so great if you turn them off and then decide you want them back on again you got to turn them on three times. But if you wait like a minute or two they will come back on to what they were before. If you get my meaning. I haven't had these more than about 2 hours so I really don't know how long they last but I did measure them and they each burn 2 Watts which is great.
