I Just Couldn't Take It Anymore!!! Finally Some Piece & Quiet. (Update: video added for sound comparison)
I was at my wits end and I just couldn't take it anymore!!! The builder's grade Broan 688 was just about to send me over the edge when this Delta Breez SLM50 saved my sanity. The builder's grade Broan fan's 4 sones was so loud that I could hear it over the TV on at normal surround levels and all the way to my kitchen 35ft away. I had to keep the bathroom door shut to reduce the sound. I once had a guess ask if I had an F-18 fighter jet warming up in there. In this particular application the fan is wired to the HVAC system, so it automatically turns on as necessary and of course that's practically all the darn time. So it had to go! The Breez SLM50 is not quite whisper quiet once it spools up, but now I barely notice that it's on and I have to be specifically listen for it most of the time if I'm outside of the bathroom. I am ecstatic for the price!!! Night and Day difference. It was a fairly easy to replace the existing Broan 688 fan in a small full bath (recommend the 80CFM for larger master bath type of bathrooms - for the quietness over the 70CFM model). It fit in the same hole in the ceiling and I did it all from below the ceiling in the bathroom. Too bad you can't just swap out the fan/motor with the Broan because the Broan uses a clip or tab type of system to mount it to the housing, where as the Delta uses screws or this would have taken less than 5 minutes or so. However, I would count on 30 - 45 minutes for the average Joe DYI'er to swap out the housing and wiring. Don't forget to turn off your breaker.
