I'm a natural hair newbie who usually sticks to using Shea Moisture Products, but this has become one of my all time favorites. It really defines my coils and doesn't flake or leave a white residue on my hair. Some of the reviews are misleading regarding sodium hydroxide (lye). Most products we use contain sodium hydroxide (lye), however it's the level of sodium hydroxide in the product that makes it harmful. This product has a low level of sodium hydroxide (lye) which is not damaging to natural hair. Research is important in understanding chemicals, damaging levels and/or amount and how they affect natural hair. This is an awesome product. Try and find out for yourself.
