Comparing Oster A6 to Oster A5
I have about 20 years of experience with the Oster A5 clippers. I prefer the A5 single speed to the A5 variable speed because the single speed version has better durability for me.
The new A6 version has a smaller and more ergonomic grip but for my hands I preferred the larger cylinder shape of the A5.
The A6 runs quieter. It is lighter weight. Running for about 10 minutes on high speed the blade got warm but not hot.
Blades are interchangeable from the A5 to the A6.
The A5 allows the user to open it up and replace the brushes inside. A5 also allows for greasing inside. The A6 instructions say not to tamper with the clippers. A6 calls for oiling the blade only, no grease.
A6 costs more than A5. I get about 12 to 18 months use out of the A5 clippers using them 6 to 8 hours a day. I would recommend the A6 for anyone interested in grooming their own dog at home, but feel it may not be "industrial" enough for professional groomers.
