I have had my eye on this product for a while, and when it went on lightning deal, I snapped it up. After unboxing it, it becomes readily apparent that there is some assembly required. All in all, not much, but you have to install all the leaves, as well as use foam tape to affix the lightning bugs to the leaves in such a manner that it makes it look like they are lighting up. The actual mounting on the ceiling is straightforward, using a circular bracket that the base-plate slots into. Keep in mind that it uses toggle bolts to secure to your ceiling, and the holes have to be nearly a half inch to accept the toggles. That is a bit on the large side, and once the kids outgrow this and it comes down, I will have a couple of gaping holes to patch, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it. Once up, click the included remote, and off you go. I think that in my mind, I had visions of a new night light for the room. In that respect, I was disappointed, as this thing puts out very little light. The bugs themselves are random in their blinking pattern, and it is actually pretty convincing. That said, only one bug lights at a time, and it is pretty dim. I suspect that if I had read the description a little better, I would have realized that, but it really isn't a big deal. Upon seeing it, my four-year old's first utterance was "this is boring." I prefer "tranquil", but to each his own. I must admit, it isn't terribly exciting to watch, but then again, neither are fireflies. Both boys have actually grown to rather like it, but it really is more of a cool room addition than anything practical. If you are looking for a real night light, please take my word for it; this isn't it. Overall, I suppose I would recommend it, but keep in mind its limitations.
