Ninja vs keurig cups
Idol hands got me purchasing the ninja because we were quite content with our single serve keurig cups. This went on sale read some positive reviews and thought let's try it out. So anyone interested in doing the switch read here as I'll let you know the differences, what to expect and my opinion on if it's worth it. First it took about 2-5min to setup and brew first coffee on ninja without issue and I was very impressed with the brew quality. This includes grinding my own beans. So most importantly, it is still easy :). Although before you jump and purchase understand there is more to it from a maintenance and cleaning perspective that you won't be used from keurig. To brew a basic cup of coffee, you'll take about two scoops of beans from the smaller measuring cup. Grind them and go straight to the steel reusable filter. While on the filter I was surprised this was included as Amazon recommended to buy along with my purchase so I thought it wasn't included. Still I figured I could use both for quicker brews when there's a queue for the coffee machine in my house :). Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to slide in the third party option I bought, may need to return this (FYI). So after you put the ground beans in, fill with water, select reg cup (about 9oz) brew, I did rich brew over classic, and it started after that. Less than a min later you'll get a dark coffee, may because I used lavazza Arabic dark roast. Remember to use the cup lift or if you leave cup at button of drip pan like I did, the coffee will splash every where. Also I used the frother as an added bonus of keurig by pouring an equivalent amount of milk into another coffee cup, microwaving for 25 sec, then froth. Poured into coffee and it was delicious. If I'd change anything it would be frothing first and brew coffee straight into frothed cup to eliminate additional cup cleaning or waste. Alright here are the watchouts. Probably the biggest my wife will have an issue with is the steel coffee filter. Keurig people will be spoiled cause you just remove old cup, toss it and move on. Now with a reusable steel filter you will need to go to trash, where it most likely be dripping on your way there, bang the filter on the trash to get as much grounds out, then rinse in sink and replace in machine. That little activity will be a significant emotional event for most keurig people. Funny seems small, but it's definitely incremental to the life of a keurig brewer :). Another thing, the post brew dirppage, seems like a possible concern for a mess and maintenance. Meaning after you make the coffee, if you're waiting for it you're not going to be patient for the residual dripping to stop. So you'll do like a did, there's a switch to stop drippin under the filter. That immoderately stops the drip, so you can move on. BUT if you remove just the steel filter to go clean, you'll be left with a puddle of residual coffee on your return to put the filter back. Seems like in order to address this you have to remove the entire filtration unit, simple but different, and empty the whole unit instead of just the filter itself. I didn't do this adequately my first time, but I suspect after some practice illl figure out some better practices to more smoothly address this. Another thing, water seems to be depleted about half way on just a "cup" brew, so figure adding water after tops 2 coffees. I got at least 3 out of keurig. Also the frother will need to be cleaned after finishing with the machine. Residual milk remaines on the frother. I was also thinking a drip pan would be nice for the frother too, as it will drip milk after you are done with it. So here's my perspective. I think you get a significantly better coffee with moderately more effort. I'm happy to ground beans, I find that a positive of the experience, as fresher and better brews involve less time between grinding and brewing. Filter upkeep is a downside but marginal in my opinion for what you get. The frother is additinal upkeep but it discretional and incremental to the typical keurig experience, so that your call. Now I need to sell my wife on letting go of the keurig so we don't have two machines on our counter :) Enjoy :) Alright key
