Quality Upright Briefbag Looks and Feels Like Real Leather
I’ve always been a leather snob but I loved the upright design of this briefbag so I thought I’d give it a try even though it’s “vegan leather.”
COLOR: It’s a brick red. Not purplish like wine but not at all bright like cherry. I really like the color because for me red is a fashion neutral that goes with anything except another clashing red.
SIZE: Some reviewers said it was too small for their 17” computers (it is). Other reviewers said it’s too big to be a purse (I agree). I am using it as a briefbag with a 15” MacBook Pro and it’s perfect.
DESIGN: A padded computer pocket on the front inside has an elastic and velco closure to keep the computer safely in place. The bag also has a smaller pocket for my iPad next to the computer pocket. Perfect. But what I really love are the outside front pockets.
Across the outside front is a 10” wide, 7” high pocket with a magnetized snap closure. You can see it in the picture below the two vertical zippers. I really like having the magnet on the snap closure. For me, that makes the difference between a useable snap and a useless one. In the front pocket are three pen holders and a key holder. The key holder is a 4” leather strap that you put your key ring on then fold over on itself and snap closed. My keys are too bulky to use it without distorting the bag’s profile but it’s a nice feature if you carry a normal key ring. In my second picture I opened that pocket a little so you can see where it is.
Above that pocket, as you can see in the picture, are two zippers. Each one opens a pocket that is as tall as the zipper and goes as deep as whether the other zipper starts. They just lay one on top of the other. You couldn’t put anything bulky in them but they’d be perfect for business cards, your cell phone, a thin wallet or just some cards and cash... stuff like that.
I like that the bag has some stylish features like the zipper pulls. See my first picture for a close up of them. They aren’t just plain old zipper pulls. They’ve got style!
The shoulder strap connects from the front left of the back to the back right of the bag to keep the weight evenly distributed. Nice touch.
They could make the shoulder strap a little more substantial. But that’s an asthetic issue, not a comfort one. They did include a thick adjustable pad on the strap so it will never bite into your shoulder. And, of course, it has handles. Also, while the main zipper glides like a dream, the two small pocket zippers are a little fussy. Very little. I probably wouldn’t have noticed either of these minor suggestions if I hadn’t looked the bag over carefully to give you a thorough review.
