A good beginner fitness tracker
This is my first fitness tracker, and so far I am really enjoying it. Accuracy: when it comes to counting steps, it seems fairly accurate, especially when compared to my step-inflating iPhone. To test it's accuracy, I did what many people do... Walk around, counting steps, then checking the numbers on the App. We had the same numbers. The next thing I did was see if it picks up bumps from a ride in the car (which my iPhone does). I compared numbers before and after multiple 30-40 mile car rides and there were no extra steps (and Wisconsin roads are known to have a few bumps). My iPhone, on the other hand, seemed to think there were 250-360 extra steps on each 30-40 mile trip (and that's just one way). So, so far so good for accuracy on the UP Move. Wearability: Depending on your style of bra, and where on your bra you clip it, the clip may or may not show through your shirt. Clipping it to my pants pocket with the tracker on the inside worked fairly well until I got in a car and put on a seatbelt. The seatbelt managed to position itself underneath the device, which popped it out of my pocket when I got to my destination. Be careful if you go the pants pocket clipping route. Placing the UP Move in my pocket (unclipped) has worked really well so far. I just drop it in and forget it until it's time to go to bed. Usability / Wearability at night: I clipped this to my shirt collar the first night or two I owned it, and it seemed to think that I fell asleep right away (which I usually do not). Now at night I clip it to a wrist sweatband, (much easier and cheaper than buying the wrist strap), and it has worked fairly well. It now notices that it takes me a while to fall asleep. Accuracy at night: While the sleep tracking isn't 100% accurate, it's still fairly close at estimating when you fall asleep / wake up, and it's just fun / interesting to see the data. One of the reviews mentions the sleep function will automatically turn off if you move around too much. I have not experienced this. There was one night where I spent more time walking to and from the restroom (vomity stomach bug), and the bulk of the day sleeping, and the sleep function stayed on the entire time until I turned it off that afternoon. The clip: after 3 weeks of solid use (clipping and removing from a thick sweatband), the clip is still working beautifully. It has not loosened and the silicone does not show any wear or tear. If I clip it to a shirt, it does not budge. App: I mostly use it to look at my steps/sleep info (including trends), and for the purpose it has worked fairly well. I have not had any issues with the Move connecting via Bluetooth in these past 3 weeks, as some other folks have mentioned. I did connect the iPhone's health app to the Jawbone app once because I forgot my tracker for part of a day, and the numbers transferred over from Health to the UP app just fine. I disconnected the two apps afterwards, however, as I just didn't see the need to keep them linked. Ease of use: it's pretty easy to use. Just install the Jawbone UP app and follow the video tutorials. Overall: I am happy with my decision to go with the UP Move. It's a reasonably priced tracker that does what I want/need it to do (track steps, and sleep). Update: 4/22/2015 Since I've been making more of an effort to be more active, I decided to activate the option to automatically update my step count every 2 hours. Sadly, the app and Up Move do not automatically connect. Instead I get the occasional notification that the device has not connected in X amount of time and to connect for an update. Little annoying that it's an option that doesn't work (at least not on my phone (iPhone) that I've been able to figure out). And so I open the app for updates. Regarding the person who says the sleep function 'automatically turns off'. If you move a lot in your sleep, you increase the odds of hitting the button, knocking it out of sleep mode. This I discovered while I went through 2 months of incessant itching (allergic reaction to medication). Now that my itching is (mostly) done, however, I have not knocked the Up Move out of sleep mode. Anyway, something to keep in mind if you move around a lot in your sleep. Overall, I am still pretty pleased with the fitness tracker and would still recommend it for anyone interested in getting started with using a fitness tracker without spending a whole lot of monies.
