Honest review. Great product.
Honest Review: I fix iPhones, tablets, computers, laptops, consoles and more. All self thought with the help of YouTube and iFix it. I have my own set of tools and I would suggest you buy one before trying to install this mod kit. Also, this voids your warranty. With that said, let's move to the PROS: the item is great, the quiality is unmatched, almost everything fits. If you've worked with other housings, you know it's really rare to find one that will actually feels like an OEM (this one does). The housing is new, duh, but that means the screws won't go in as easy (no loose screws is a good thing). CONS: I did not use the color buttons because it requires a little more work (sanding) and the color is not as bright as I would have liked. The + button requires a little bit of work, I used my tweezers and screwdrivers to make the hole a little bigger so that the button could fit better and not stay pressed. Same with the A, B, X and Y, insert a metal tool and spin it. You want the buttons to pass without sticking on the sides. They need to fall into place and move freely (up and down) when you press them. Once you are at that point, they are set. Tips: If you haven't done anything like this before, TAKE YOUR TIME, watch videos, look on forums, learn how to work with this sort of things. They have awesome technology and are very fragile. Ribbon cables may break with the slightest movement, disconnect them to take it apart and reconnect them before putting them back in. LEARN how to do it. You do not need to disconect them all but it's easier until you learn how to do this sort of things. Start with the LEFT joycon, the easiest of the two. The light is very important, do it during the day or with a bright light. Take pictures, video or anotate stuff so you know what goes where. Screws have different color for different placements, take that into account. The "middle tray", where the battery rests, requires you to mess with the triggers, don't do it if you are inexperienced. Also, it has adhesive tape so that the battery stays in place. The gray "tray" is almost invisible when you reassemble everything back. I am very experienced and did not change trays. Can you tell? No. If you have experience: This will be a easy. Opening an iPad is a lot harder than this. I would compare this mod to changing the screen on an iPhone 4. Lots to do, but easy enough. 5/5 in quality. 7/10 in difficulty. 1000/10 in awesomeness. Time: Experienced: 30 mins to 1 hour. Inexperienced: 2 hours. Edit: Several moths in and the shell remains in great condition. My rating remains. If you are in the fence, go for it. There's tutorials on YouTube to help you get through it. Don't forget to buy a basic tool kid. If you find this helpful, there's a button for that. ;)
