I recently replaced the broken Whirley-Pop that I have been using broken for quite some time (the whole handle fell off)with the Great Northern. Big improvement...the pan is a little heavier and the gears are metal. One reviewer commented on the back half of the lid not staying fastened when trying to dump the popcorn and that is an issue and annoying with both poppers. If you are debating between the Whirley-Pop and the Great Northern, it is a no brainer and I strongly recommend the Great Northern. I have also found that it works very well on my glass top stove.
