Using this in our small RV
This is a review on two parts. The first part concerns why I bought this item. This product had lots of reviews. That means to me that you get a good sampling and paid reviewer's comments are diluted. I liked that the description explained what to expect from this device in performance. The wattage was 20 Watts, important in an RV. I would like to have seen a noise level listed. I was unsure of the physical unit's size. I see one set of measurements but I think that's of the box and not the unit. Clear that up and this review has all the information you need.
Coming up, review of the unit. My RV is 76F and 50-70% humidity without the unit. The 70% humidity came when I was steaming veggies on the stove.
Here's the second part of the review. I've had the unit for a week. The unit is very quiet. In a quiet room I can't hear it 2 feet away. Up closer you can hear air rushing through the vents.
The dimensions of the unit are 4 3/8 inches at it's deepest point, 8 1/2 inches tall, and 5 1/2 inches at it's widest point. The unit is curved and not rectangular.
The intake is in the front, the exhaust on top.
Does it work? Yes, it does but maybe not as you might expect. This unit can only extract water from the air if the temperature of the internal cooling plate is lower than the dew point. The bigger the difference the more water collected. If your room is cold, you'll collect less water. There's also less water in colder air.
One thing to be aware of is air leaks in your room. If fresh water laden air is continually introduced, you won't notice a difference. In our RV, I ran a vent fan that sucked fresh humid air from the outside. This machine could not keep up because we weren't recirculating the drier air, it went outside. For best results, keep your room sealed from outside air. I'm satisfied, the unit collects water and that's water not in my air.
My unscientific experiment involves steaming veggies and boiling pasta on the stove. On completely different days, I anecdotally note the humidity in the RV stayed near 50% with the unit and near 70% without the unit.
I'm going to the beach soon, I'll see if I stay comfortable.
