I am fervent charcoal person from California living in a 500 sq ft "room" in a 4 story apartment in Boston. I go as far as to pack a suitcase of seared, frozen, vacuum sealed, bbq food whenever I visit home to be able to finish them oven as I can't BBQ where I live.
I have tried various electric grills that require you fill the bottom pan with water, traditional cast iron pans, etc., and none of them ever quite do the job as I want them to. My apartment's overhead range is ornamental, so these methods only create all the more smoke. More importantly, they don't produce the results this grill does.
I can attest to veg (asparagus has been amazing), hamburgers, hotdogs, steak, and chicken (without skin....with skin turned out amazingly delicious, but created spatter and therefor smoke) being far superior (and quicker) than cooking them in any other traditional fashion, with that same great BBQ flavor profile.
I am unsure if it is uncouth to plug another product, but the spice house in chicago has amazing blends. In particular, add a dash of mesquite powder to your traditional marinade/dry rub to enhance the flavor profile towards that of a normal BBQ.
The angled spread ambient heat of the infrared is unique. It grills perfectly, but does not create smoke if grilling appropriately. I had originally tried to order on Amazon, but they were sold out. I love this grill so much, now that they are back in stock, I will be ordering more to send to family.
Cant recommend enough. Finally an indoor grill that does what you want an indoor grill to do.
