I'm only partially into reading this book, but I feel that I have to comment. I've seen the movie, and even in the first few chapters the book offers a ton of extra details. Things that move quickly in the movie are explained in far greater detail, even if we hear little of what the characters think. So far I have no problem with the writing. What there is little to none of is backstory. I assume that this is a decision that was made at the top. It seems that the powers that be want the backstory to either be developed in future movies, or told in some of the books that will come out. Don't expect to have all of your questions answered, but do get this book if you want a fuller sense of what's happening in the movie. Since I haven't finished the book yet, I'll give it 4 stars for "so far so good with lots of potential." OK - now I've read the whole book. Could the action have been written in a more exciting way? Possibly, but I found myself getting swept along with the action most of the time. I appreciated the extra scenes and feel that I understand the movie better. I wish that there was more backstory, but am hopeful that all will be revealed in good time (you hear that Disney/Lucasfilm?1?). I'm just happy to have Star Wars back on track!
