Found my lost Husky!
Have had tracker for 2 months. Due to some negative reviews, I wanted to let those know of my experience so far.
- Background. We use a PetSafe above ground perimeter electronic fence to keep our dogs in safe in our yard. Tracking unit was purchased for our rescue Husky "Dubs," (University of Washington fans will understand the name), in case he was to escape fence or leash when on walks etc.
- Accuracy. We live in country with OK 2-3 bar cell coverage through Verizon. After setting up the virtual fence feature, unit acquires unit quickly and tracks Dubs accurately when outside our house. Would I count on accurate tracking in a city with buildings or out hiking under a forested canopy? No I would not.
But there are units that are designed for use in such environments.
- Battery life has been much better than anticipated, so far up to 6 days max, but never less than 3. Battery status has been accurate with great feature of low battery warning.
- Map display. Like the Map/Satellite option. The ability to view both your and pet's location at same time is key to quickly find pet if lost.
- Ease of use. Make sure you take time to learn map tracking features, especially, "Live," mode. Not hard but don't wait until your pet is lost.
- Real life experience. Took Dubs to local elementary school for walk. Upon parking, was putting on leash when he jumped from back seat to front, and then out the driver door, where he then ran like he was shot out of a cannon towards soccer field. No way I was going to keep him in sight as long as he continued to run. I started tracking him and he was a mile away walking around adjacent neighborhood in less than 10 minutes. I called my wife who was nearby and told her where he was, while driving there myself. Using live tracking mode on map layer function, was able to navigate through a maze of streets following him to within about a hundred feet of where map showed him to be. I got out of car and shouted for him, he came out from behind a house fifty feet away, and with very guilty eyes, jumped into the truck.
Hope this helps if you are considering purchase. For the $150 it takes to get into this system for one year, it is a small price to pay to help keep your pet safe. I have not been compensated in any way by Amazon or other to write this review.
