Works great when soil is prepared correctly.
I read several negative reviews of this product on Amazon and was fearful it would not produce results, but it has. I live near Dallas TX and began this in April. I googled how to restart a lawn and followed the directions carefully. It took many hours and I am still doing our front lawn section by section, but I am seeing results. I chose a portion of the lawn to start with, knowing I would be doing the work by myself and wanting to possibly try out different brands of seed and fertilizer as I continued to other sections of the lawn. Before I started anything, I watered the entire lawn thoroughly once a day for several days. Then I chose a section of the lawn to start working with. I raked up all of the thatch, leaves, sticks, etc. from that section. The previous owners laid sod, but then left without it ever being watered. So there were several thick layers of dead grass and other materials. I then pulled all of the weeds from the section. Then I took the rake to the section again, this time lightly raking it to loosen the top soil. I then used the Scotts Wizz Hand-Held Spreader to put down the seed, both north to south and east to west directions. Then I used Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food - Starter Food for New Grass Plus Weed Preventer, also applying the same way, both directions. I watered that portion of the lawn for 20-30 minutes morning and evening (if we didn't get rain) for about 10 days. The next weeked I did the same method on another section of the lawn. It has been about 15 days since I seeded that first section and I am starting to see grass! There have also been some weeds that have popped up, but very few. I'm taking the lawn section by section and plan on continuing use of both this seed and the mentioned fertilizer products. I think people don't do any work on the yard BEFORE just putting down seeds and so of course they aren't going to see any results. The seeds aren't going to penetrate the soil if they are put on top of layers of dead grass or thatch. This has been a ton of work for me, but seeing progress definitely motivates me to keep going.
